As will become apparent with viewing, the nine-teen images shown here are sequential, each image incorporated into the next.  Though the images are presented in a linear fashion, and thus could be said to form a narrative (albeit abstract) the overall affect conjures up a spiral; no matter how far the sequence progresses the original image of sand and stone always resides, unseen to the eye, within the photograph.  

And thus a conundrum is presented: will the work continue ad-infinitum or somehow resolve itself (as, for instance, in Duane Michals' Things are queer.), and if so, how?

The sequence currently runs to over one hundred images on Mark-Steffen's own site (a link to which is provided below), of which 1-19 are shown below, and no conclusion seems near!
